The fortunate northwest coast

Yesterday was cool and overcast here in Portland, and it even rained in the afternoon. The last few days have mostly been the same, and so far it looks like today will also.

As the map shows (click for bigger version), our area is almost the only part of the country to be so fortunate.

Oh, well, it seems the local authorities have things well in hand.

Hey Infodell ... Oklahoma calling for a day of prayer, eh? ... wish they would pray to stop some of this goddamn overspending on some of this contracted defense!

It doesnt suprise me a bit of the PDX (Portland) weather though, what did suprise me was the Texas SW Rio Grande Valley being only 86 high, perhap's they have rain down there or somethin today, havent checked, lil suprised when I hear town's like NYC and Chicago are hot as Dallas at time's, I lived in both them town's and in summer, and they really get humid and are more congested/ compact than a town like Dallas, so it's a tad different up there. The Texas drought ... I figure ... hard sure, but no biggie ... I mean, within a couple year's we'll be whining over flodding rain's here in area's that are bone dry now. Look at the globe, then look at the atmosphere that surround's it, being these wet to drought condition's will alwayz be moving too.

PDX has mountain's to it's east that seperate's the end of a desert region from it, then the cool current's of the NW Pacific, which bring the moisture, but the near dry arrid air from the other side of the mountain's keep's the humidity moderate, you also have the green factor of the entire coastal region, fairly safe area from too much excessive heat ... love that town!

RC: The drought in Texas is actually the worst since record-keeping began in 1895. As for too much rain in the future, well, the models do predict a rise in precipitation, but unfortunately it tends not to go where we want it.

4D: Portland's weather is a lot like England's, except that the summers are usually hotter -- so far this year we haven't even had much real heat.

Okjimm: Well, I certainly don't want swarms of teabaggish types moving here from the hot areas -- fortunately most people here are just bitching about the rain and cool, so they're not making Oregon sound attractive.

I'm envious. One more reason I'm tempted to move out there. In DC, it's boiling, and expected to get worse tomorrow. This generally leads to exploding manhole covers, putting us one up on the usual array of biblical plagues.

Mendip: I'd be glad to see you move here, just be sure to leave the global-warming denialists behind in the mess they helped create.

Ugh. The mid-Atlantic has had highs in the triple digits these past two days, with high humidity. Make it stop!
